Explore the top golf courses in Cheshire

Cheshire offers a wide range of golf courses to suit all abilities, making it the perfect destination for your next golf adventure.

Delamere Forest Golf Course

Founded in 1910, tradition remains a consistent part of the Delamere golf course. The original designs by Herbert Fowler have remained untouched and full advantage has been made of the natural, severely-undulating contours of the heathland course and surrounding ancient woodland.

It’s not for the faint-hearted though, the opening 5 holes are notorious for their unforgiving, unapologetic difficulty. The 5th, in particular, is a true test of nerve, patience, accuracy and concentration. From an uphill tee shot, the approach to the green is left guarded by ponds in front of, and left of it, resulting in one of the hardest holes to play in the country.

Yards 6325, par 71.

Eaton Golf Course

Designed by Donald Steel, the celebrated golf architect, Eaton Golf Course was created as an enjoyable challenge for players of all abilities, immaculately presentated with contoured greens built to USGA standards, which are fast, firm, and true.

At 6,580 yards (par 72) for men and 5,642 yards (par 73) for women, the course offers a balanced test which will stretch the better player whilst remaining fully playable for those of more modest ability. There is also a BLACK course Par 72, SSS 73 – 6714 yards which provides a more serious challenge to low handicap golfers.

Beautifully situated beside the Shropshire Union Canal, the course features a wealth of mature oaks, a picturesque brook and several ponds and copses, all of which add to the golfing challenge and provide rich habitats for wildlife in abundance – hares, foxes, swans and now barn owls!

Macdonald Portal Golf Club

From the stadium layout of the Portal Championship course, to the rolling tree-lined fairways of the Premier Course, Portal Golf Club presents two unique challenges for members and visitors alike.

The Championship Course opened in 1990, and was named ‘Golf Course of the Year’ in 1995. Designer Donald Steel has created a challenge that is characterised by unique and distinctive holes; expansive water hazards and cascading waterfalls are among the tests. The signature is typical of Steel’s magnificent 7,037 yard layout – the long third tips the scales at 607 yards, with a green guarded by a beautiful lake.

The 6538 yard Premier Course, also opened in 1990 offers dramatic natural undulations of the Cheshire sandstone ridge means each hole has a distinct and unique character, providing eighteen very individual challenges during your round.

Nestled in the tranquil Cheshire countryside is the 9 hole, 1724 yard Arderne Course. While this is the perfect environment for beginners to hone their golfing skills, it also provides a challenge for the more experienced player too. It’s picturesque water features, contoured greens and mix of holes ranging between 100 and 310 yard makes this a delightful course to spend time with friends or family.
