Lemon posset
Lemon posset is a firm favourite on our menu and has been adored by dessert lovers across the country since its invention in the late nineteenth century.
The marrying of a creamy, soft texture and a tangy and sharp lemon flavour, makes this posset a taste sensation that’s wonderfully enhanced by our crumbly shortbread biscuit.
The beauty of our lemon posset is that it can be enjoyed at any time of day, either with an early afternoon cup of tea, or coffee or at the end of a hearty evening meal.
Rhubarb & apple crumble
Is there a more quintessentially British dessert than the magnificent crumble? Emerging in popularity in the 1940s, the crumble has established itself as a true classic.
Our crumble brings together rhubarb and apple to form an at once sweet, yet tangy and sour filling that’s topped with a deliciously crunchy golden-brown sugar crumb top.
For a little extra luxury, crumbles at the Swan are served with our smooth, locally sourced vanilla ice cream.
Marmalade bread & butter pudding
Ever since it first made it appeared in Eliza Smith’s 1728 ground-breaking recipe book ‘The Compleat Housewife’, the humble ‘Bread and Butter Pudding’ has remained a popular dessert on these shores.
Here at the Swan, our fresh, artisan bread comes from the Bradwall Bakehouse in nearby Sandbach and is always of the highest quality. The crunch of the bread is perfectly complemented by the creamy and sweet vanilla custard that seeps through the dish’s layers.
The shimmering golden finish you expect from bread-and-butter pudding is enhanced by the magnificent marmalade we add to our bread and butter, which also helps to add an extra depth of flavour.
Chocolate mousse
Rich, gooey and indulgent, our chocolate mousse makes for a luxurious and delectable pudding that holds near universal popularity.
The Swan’s take on this end of a meal favourite, offers diners a glorious combination of smooth mousse with crunchy and subtly sweet granola, creating a sensory delight. Our chocolate mousse is further topped with rich and flavourful fresh berries and vanilla-infused Chantilly cream.
Cheese and biscuits
You don’t have to possess a sweet tooth to enjoy our puddings either as, here at The Swan, our selection of local cheese and biscuits provide a divine savoury ending to your meal.
We have a range of gorgeous cheeses for you to enjoy with our selection of artisan crackers and biscuits that cater to all taste buds and palates. The first of our trio of cheeses is the Shropshire-handcrafted White Fox cheddar, which offers a rich, nutty and creamy flavour, as well as a slight crunch.
It may have Alpine roots, but the Malpas-made Crabtree is a proud local cheese perfected by Anne Clayton in the glorious south Cheshire countryside. The semi-hard cheese has a nutty taste to it and is a real hit with our patrons.
Our cheese selection is completed by the Tarporley Blue, which is lovingly made just around the corner from the Swan. The Tarporley Blue has a creamy texture, with subtle blue tasting notes that’s perfect for those who prefer a stronger cheese.
