Deciding to have your child christened is definitely a reason to celebrate. It’s a time to invite family and friends to gather for a celebration and share the joy. Organising a christening can be stressful, especially when you’re trying to look after your new baby, but they are worth it. Plus, our team at The Swan are on hand to help you organise your special day when you book your party with us.
Christenings are a special time that bring together your friends and family to celebrate your child and help to welcome them into the world.
In our last blog, we discussed how our beautiful Tarporley Room can be used for events, and we think an after christening reception is a perfect example of what can take place here! Our suite can be fully customisable when planning the décor for the christening celebration too, which leaves the creative control completely up to you.
5 Christening Reception Décor Ideas
If you haven’t started planning, or you need a helping hand with your christening reception décor ideas, our team have comprised a list from our experience of planning these lovely celebrations, to make your day special.
1. The Overall Décor
When planning a christening reception, colours are likely to be first on your list. Schemes like white and gold, or bright pastels in summer are always popular when decorating. Streamers, balloon arches, tablecloths, and invitations may all be customised to match your colour scheme. Using classy posters with colourful writing to decorate the venue with phrases, or well wishes from your guests is another lovely unique idea.
2. Choosing a Theme
When planning a christening many people chose a theme to help decorate. Some theme ideas can include matching décor to the seasons, for example in spring having lots of flowers and farmyard animal décor. If you are having twins, why not make the occasion double the fun? Doubling up on all your décor (think animals in pairs and contrasting colours) and dressing your little ones in matching outfits is a nice idea. Even having a cuddly bear theme may be an idea to consider, as this signifies childhood, timeless favourites such as Peter Rabbit and Winnie the Pooh, are ideal décor choices for a christening reception.
3. Something to Eat
Now that the decoration is sorted, planning what to serve your guests is the next step!
Because visitors are likely to arrive in drabs following the service, a buffet spread would be recommended for a christening. At The Swan we are able to accommodate your guests with an array of fresh seasonal food choices. Whether its afternoon tea, a simple sandwiches and salad buffet or a hot buffet with themed options, you can be assured that your guests will be impressed. Don’t forget goodies to help keep the kids entertained too! To top it all off, you can serve a christening cake with a choice of tea and coffee.
4. Children’s Entertainment
Whilst at the christening, there may be other little ones running around, so keeping them engaged throughout the day is a must. One idea is having a crafts table for children where they can draw, and colour – it can keep them occupied for hours!
5. Something to Remember
Finally, an addition we think would be perfect for a christening is a guest book. Getting your friends and family to write a loving message or best wishes for your baby is something you will always cherish, it’s also something for your family to look back on in years to come. You might even accompany the book with a polaroid camera, so guests can snap a picture of themselves to remember the day forever.
