Exploring the Chester walls and its independent shops is an ideal way to spend a day, but with the boom of staycations over the past few years, we’ve found many of our guests want to come away for more than one night, and fill their whole agenda with different things to do!
Tarporley and its surrounding area has a wealth of green fields, forests, and other rambles to explore. If you are a city person, getting away from the hustle and bustle and breathing in some much-needed country air could be for you!
One of our staff favourites is the Beeston and Peckforton Castles Circular walk. The trail takes in two beautiful castles set within the sandstone hills of Cheshire. Something you can’t see in the city! There’s also the outstanding Delamere Forest, which is Cheshire’s largest area of woodland to consider popping over to.
You can bring your pooch
We know pets are part of the family, and that’s why at The Swan at Tarporley we welcome your dogs to come stay too in selected rooms! When staycation-ing in the city, many places don’t allow furry friends. The beauty of being in the countryside is that dogs can roam free, stretching their paws on long walks and smelling the fresh countryside air. Plus, no need to leave them in the room as we have dog-friendly areas within our main pub for dinner too.

Chester is a magnificent city with much to keep you organised. However, there’s plenty to be appreciated in the smaller Cheshire towns that surround it too.

Guests of The Swan can travel into Chester and indulge in its city experiences. The region has a lot to offer, including the amazing Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet, which boasts over 140 stores for trendsetters, foodies, and social butterflies alike.
There’s also plenty to do with the kids! Probably Chester’s most famous attraction, Chester Zoo. The UK’s largest and most visited zoo is home to over 35,000 animals and 125 acres of zoological gardens. It’s truly an extraordinary day out.
