It may seem a little early yet, but like it or not, the mention of Christmas is slowly creeping into conversations!
This is our first real Christmas post-Covid where there’s very little concern, meaning it’s a good excuse to celebrate yuletide joy in the good old fashioned way we used to. Think lots of great drinks, hearty homecooked festive food and roaring log fires.
We do Christmas well at The Swan, from seasonal lunches to full blown Christmas parties in our locally-loved Tarporley Room. The pub is set up to create a cosy atmosphere that our guests just fall in love with. So, whilst it is a bit early, we’re just too excited now! Let’s talk Christmas party planning in Cheshire.

Planning your Christmas parties for your colleagues in advance can prevent all that last minute stress when it comes to organising an event. Nobody wants to take the blame for a half-hearted do! Our team here at The Swan wants to help you get into the swing of planning your celebrations, so here’s our advice to heed.
Work out your budget
It’s time for a conversation with the boss, because the first thing you want to get straight when planning a party is how much money you can spend. We’d always suggest creating a plan with ideas on how you want your party to play out. Ask yourself questions such as:
- Will you want food?
- Is there going to be a theme?
- Are you doing activities?
Depending on how much you have to play with, you could treat your colleagues to a yuletide lunch in Cheshire in one of our pub rooms that’ll be decorated for the occasion, or, if you’d like to get some real fun festive games on the go for team building – why not book out the Tarporley event room for its generous floor space and fully ‘waited on’ lunch option?
Finalise the time, date, and guest list…
Before you make any big decisions it’s important to pick out a date. There’s no use booking out a venue if half of the office have already headed off for their Christmas break. Normally, we find our clients prefer Thursdays and Fridays for their corporate events, but weekends can be fun too! Make sure you book in nice and early though as we don’t need to tell you how busy these dates can get!
Pick your venue
Choosing a location that meets your team’s needs as well as being in the local area and easy to travel to is important. People don’t usually want venture too far, especially around Christmas time when it’s cold and dark. Plus, it’s important to keep everyone safe.
If you’re planning on really splashing out, why not chose a location that has overnight accommodation? At The Swan at Tarporley, we have 16 en-suite bedrooms located within the pub and on our courtyard. You won’t get a better commute than a few steps (or stumbles!) to a comfy, cosy bed and central heating.
Choose your theme
We know it’s Christmas, but that doesn’t mean your party can’t have an extra theme! Call us old fashioned but it’s a lot of fun getting dressed up, and the more excuses to add games to your festive agenda… The better! Whether it’s questionable Christmas jumpers or full blown fancy dress, think about theming your Xmas celebrations and getting your co-workers to join in on the fun too. The Swan has a beautiful traditional décor, so Dickens themed events always fit in quite nicely. Just a suggestion… (and we’re sure your colleagues will thank us for it)!
Plan some entertainment
Finally, festive entertainment can really kickstart your party. Everyone loves a sing-along after an ale or two! Trust us. Cheshire has a great entertainment scene around the Christmas period and we’re sure our sales and events teams can recommend a few singers and musicians if you fancy.
Not feeling brave enough? Don’t worry. Maybe your plan has you reaching for games or a Christmas themed quiz instead?
